Labri Manor (Stellenbosch)
This rustic 3-star guesthouse is fairly centrally located in Stellenbosch, and is nearby restaurants and shops on the same road as its sister guesthouse, River Manor.
Labri Manor offers 9 rooms: Classic Rooms and Standard Rooms. The classic rooms are on the upper floor and have air conditioning as well as an en-suite bathroom each. The Standard rooms are on the ground floor and have no air conditioning. They are also smaller than the Classic rooms.
In addition, the guesthouse has a beautiful swimming pool in the courtyard, a lounge for relaxing and a breakfast area where guests can enjoy their morning meal (included in the price).
Parking is available right in front of the entrance to Labri Manor.
Clouds Estate (Stellenbosch)
The Clouds Estate lies directly on the Helshoogte Pass, next to Delaire Graff Estate. It boasts beautifully maintained gardens and grows its own vines. There is no wine cellar as yet, but it is on the cards for 2014.
Clouds Estate offers 7 rooms in the main house, as well as a few indivudual self-catering villas with a kitchenette. No children under 12 years are permitted in the guesthouse, but children of all ages are welcome in the villas.
There are two swimming pools available for guests, of which one is heated and has beautiful views of the vineyards on the adjacent property.
The main house has a romantic garden with huge armchairs to relax and soak in the sun. Clouds Estate has its own bar and restaurant where breakfast and a light lunch is served. For those who would like to have dinner or visit a spa, complimentary transfers are available to Delaire Graff.
Robertson Small Hotel (Robertson)
The idyllic Robertson Small Hotel lies in the small village of Robertson, which forms part of the wine region.
This 5-star boutique hotel has its own bar and is well-known for Reuben’s Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Rooms and suites are found in the main house, in the ‘Stable’ next door, and at the pool. All rooms are equipped with an iPod docking station, a safe, a TV, air conditioning, a DVD player, a mini bar and an en-suite bathroom.
Included in the daily rate is WiFi access, mini bar, snacks before dinner and a healthy breakfast.
Massages are offered in the wellness area, and secure parking is available on the premises.
There are many options for wine tasting in the village, including Robertson’s Winery. This tasting comprises of 5 different wines and chocolates. Right next door is Klipdrift, a brandy distillery. Here visitors have the opportunity to taste brandy with chocolate, or with beef and a sauce.
Middedorp Manor (Stellenbosch)
Middedorp Manor is a beautiful Victorian-style building. One enters the estate via a small driveway leading up to the building, passing a small rose garden. In front of the house is parking for approximately 4 vehicles.
Our visit was unannounced. Nevertheless, Maxwell gave us a warm welcome. He first led us to a small office which serves as the reception. The first impression is of elegance and comfort. There is a lounge and a guestroom on the ground floor and 4 more guestrooms on the upper floor.
Upstairs, an open library with a wonderful selection of books leads to the terrace where guests can wind down in style. Enjoy views of the front garden towards Van Riebeeck Street. The rooms are very light in colour and the selection of textiles for the curtains, cushions and blankets is of high quality.
On the ground floor you can find a small breakfast restaurant with a terrace and views of the pool area. I liked the building immediately.
This guesthouse is ideal for couples and guests who prefer small and elegant accommodation where they can retire to a quiet corner with a glass of wine and a book. The guest house with its cosy fireplace is also ideal for cold winter days. The décor is neither overwhelming nor too sparse – just a choice combination of refined detail.
Middedorp Manor is a small jewel right in the heart of the town, and despite its central location is very quiet.
Klein Oliphantshoek (Franschhoek)
We visited Klein Oliphantshoek, situated on a quiet road.
Despite the interiors being colonial and a bit old-fashioned, the guesthouse has a comfortable and quiet ambience. It also boasts a library and a swimming pool set in a beautiful garden.
8 rooms are all individually furnished. The 2 Comfort Rooms are on the upper floor and both have a pitched roof area, but are good value for money. Some of the rooms have a small splash pool or a jacuzzi. Others lead to a small garden or a small terrace.
La Cies Des Montagnes (Franschhoek)
An absolutely beautiful wine estate for discerning customers in marvellous surrounds with a view of the mountains from a beautifully appointed garden.
Each ‘mansion’ has its own pool. It is possible to book a butler and a gourmet chef. Each of the 4 privately located mansions is contemporary, yet somewhat rustically furnished. There are 2 x 4 sleeper units, 1 x 6 sleeper unit and 1 x 8 sleeper unit.
The villas are fairly close to art galleries, good restaurants and boutiques in Franschhoek. In addition, a helicopter transfer is available from the airport.
