Shimmy Beach Club
Cape Town’s first true beach club opened mid-December 2012 right on the water’s edge at the V&A Waterfront.
This unique vantage point offers visitors views of all boats/ yachts and cruiseliners that enter and leave Cape Town’s bustling harbour. With large inviting sun-loungers, a rim flow swimming pool and an outside cocktail bar, visitors to Shimmy’s are invited to sit back, relax and soak up the summer sun.
There is also a diverse menu offering excellent quality food in this upscale eatery served in luxurious surroundings with nature-inspired décor.
Madame Zingara’s Miracle Tour
After the original restaurant burned down, Madame Zingara has been entertaining its loyal following with the travelling dinner theatre production moving between Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
The Magic Tent returned to Cape Town in mid-January and will stay at its current location in the heart of the Waterfront until April 2013.
A mouth-watering set menu with a number of options per course is offered together with full entertainment in cirque de soleil style with a hint of local flavour.
Kloof Street House
Location really is everything! This restaurant is found at the beginning of Kloof Street, housed in a beautiful, historic building. Add to this the little known fact that it offers free parking ‘back of house’, and the allure increases.
The fact that this is the new venture of the owner of Asoka further up Kloof Street makes a visit to this intimate restaurant an absolute must! After years of whipping up a superb tapas menu at Asoka (currently rated within the top 50 of the World’s Best Bars), the chef now offers a full dinner menu at Kloof Street House too.
Waterfront Market On The Wharf
Not quite a restaurant, but this is a must-visit for anyone who enjoys fresh produce.
Housed within the V&A Waterfront’s old power station, the Market is Cape Town’s first big, central produce-driven market. More than 60 traders have been carefully selected to showcase a range of high-quality farm goods, and an interactive pop-up kitchen provides the entertainment.
With an emphasis on fresh food, fruits & vegetables, this large ‘souk-type’ market gives visitors the rare opportunity to interact with the producers, thus offering direct exposure to the source.
Red Table Restaurant And The Wine Tasting Centre At Nederburg Wine Estate
And further out in the winelands….
Nederburg has created a novel restaurant, open only for the summer from Wednesdays to Sundays. Called the Red Table, it offers locally-sourced fresh, light bistro-style food in a relaxed atmosphere.
What makes it different is a canny configuration of red tables which meander through the Manor House and spill out into the gorgeous gardens.
Hint : Look out for the special flash sale offers of wine to take home.
The Mill House Kitchen At Lourensford Estate
In the cradle of the Helderberg mountains, this restaurant overlooks the rolling green lawns of the meticulously beautiful Lourensford wine estate.
The menu is an inspiration of rustic French and Italian cuisine – all served in unpretentious surroundings with clean, simple decor and just a touch of countryside. Expect some heavenly thin-crust pizza, but also interesting dishes like prawn risotto or slow-roasted pork belly.
Camphors At Vergelegen Wine Estate
This historic wine estate has long been considered a culinary destination. However, last year the Lady Phillips Restaurant was closed and underwent a complete revamp.
Under the artistic hand of Christo Barnard (who also did the striking intereior at Pierneef on La Motte wine estate), this historic building has now been decked out in high gloss tiles, Persian carpets and crystal chandeliers. The overall effect is breathtakingly stylish, creating the perfect backdrop for Chef PJ Vadas delicious menu.
For a more relaxed family friendly alternative there is also the new Stables Restaurant at Vergelegen, located next to the wine tasting centre.
