Three beautiful accommodations in Franschhoek – Visted by Sue

In the second edition of our 2026 Newsletter series, we would like to showcase three properties which Sue visited for you in Franschhoek. She did thorough site inspections at the following three properties, which all belong to the Oyster Collection (a South African family-owned hotel group). In her own style she describes the properties for you, please enjoy!

Avondrood

Avondrood is a converted farmhouse from 1870 located centrally in the historic district of Franschhoek.

The entrance can be accessed by tag or fingerprint, and leads from the patio to a lounge, bar and dining room combination with a large fireplace, making you feel that you have stepped back in time.

The staff are very warm and welcoming.

There are 8 rooms, all with extra length beds, divided up into:

  • 3 Luxury Suites
  • 3 Luxury Twin with fireplaces
  • 1 Deluxe Room
  • 1x 2-bedroom Family Suite upstairs called the Mountain View Suite, with a lounge with a fireplace and an amazing patio.

The Deluxe Room and a Luxury Room have an interleading door, which is also ideal for a family. Avondrood also offers baby cots, baby chairs and even baby strollers, so it is very family friendly.

All rooms have ensuite bathrooms with underfloor heating, baths, showers, luxury beauty products and fluffy bathrobes and slippers.

Breakfast is served straight from the kitchen to a buffet table with a wonderful selection for everybody’s tastes.

There is a cosy pool area surrounded by elephant statues in memory of the elephants that once roamed the Franschhoek area, previously known as Oliphants Hoek (Elephant’s Corner).

There is an enclosed parking lot for the cars of hotel guests.

La Fontaine

La Fontaine was once a girl's boarding school, and consists of two heritage properties, one of them dating back to 1895. There are 17 rooms spread out amongst the 2 properties, consisting of:

  • 5 Luxury Rooms
  • 5 Deluxe Rooms, of which 2 have an interleading door
  • 5 Luxury Suites
  • 2 Mountain View Rooms, one with a fireplace

As with Avondrood, all rooms have ensuite bathrooms.

In most luxury rooms, an extra bed can be added, ideal for smaller families.

Baby cots are free of charge and even nappy bins are provided. Baby sitting services are also offered.

There are 2 swimming pools of which one is heated. Lots of Wisteria and Vine Pergolas provide shaded lounging areas.

Shelves, filled with books for guests to read during their stay, adorn the walls of the bar/lounge area. There is also an in-house shop selling Art, Crafts and Trinkets.

A wonderful breakfast variety for everyone’s palate is included.

Finally, there is ample parking in and around the guest houses.

The Pink Door

The Pink Door is a private, fully staffed 3-bedroom Luxury Villa ideal for a larger family or a group of friends, situated a block away from the heart of Franschhoek.

It has an open-plan well-equipped kitchen, a dining area and a lounge with a big screen TV for cosy movie nights.

The 3 bedrooms are all ensuite with Egyptian cotton bedding and Towels as well as beautiful art on the walls and USB plugpoints.

It also has an office for quick work chores overlooking a small koi pond.

A big patio with an outside dining table beside the pool is ideal to enjoy the meals cooked by the in-house chef and served by the private butler, if so desired.

There is a pizza oven and a herb garden for your own cooking adventures.

Daily cleaning and turn down, and full minibar are all included, along with tailored help planning your itinerary during your stay.

In 2026, we are once again committed to personally experiencing and getting to know the properties we sell – something that remains extremely important to us.

Stay tuned for more 😊
