Welcome 2024!!

A new year has begun and we look forward to a successful 2024 with you and your clients in South Africa!

The Ilanga Travel team will be traveling again this year and discovering South Africa for you.

Our first destination was SANBONA WILDLIFE RESERVE near Barrydale. It is only about 4 hours drive from Cape Town and is therefore the closest, most authentic safari experience to the Cape.

We stayed in Tilney Manor but also visited Gondwana and Dwyka. Sanbona offers a lodge for every type of holidaymaker. If you prefer to stay in tented accommodation, then Dwyka Tented Lodge is perfect for honeymooners or couples looking for peace and solitude. Families go to the Gondwana Family Lodge, which offers a children's room with many different activities. The staff take care of the children so that the parents can also relax. On the game drives there is a small booklet for the children to fill out, which adds a fun activity for the kids during Safari. Clients looking for more of a homely feel in their accommodation should go to Tilney Manor as it feels like home. The pool area is great for relaxing and the rooms are large and spacious.

Sanbona no longer has white lions, but has received 3 new lions from the Kalahari that are slowly getting used to their new home. When we visited, we saw the lions in the boma. In the coming weeks they will be released and then allowed to explore their new home.

We were also very lucky to spot the mother cheetah with her cubs on foot. That was a unique experience!

We spotted a lot of zebras, giraffes, baboons, buffaloes, oryx and rhinos on our game drives. Sanbona can be proud of the number of rhinos they have – almost all of them still have their horns!

And – last but not least – you shouldn't forget the breathtaking landscape you drive through and which constantly offers variety, so that you're always looking forward to the next discovery on a game drive!

We look forward to sharing more with you in our next Newsletter!
