Blue Train Upgrades

The Blue Train has announced that it will undergo various upgrades. These include refurbishing of the train’s interiors; upgrading its technology as well as all critical safety components and the re-development of a new website and reservations system.

“Technology is advancing every day and it is important for The Blue Train to stay abreast of these new technological developments that may benefit its guests on the train,” said Herbert Themba Mashuela, Brand Marketing & Communications Manager. Mashuela said the upgrade would take approximately six months to complete.

Upgrades include:

Safety aspects: All safety critical components on the exterior as well as on the interior have been upgraded with the latest technology. These include the braking system, air-cushion suspension system, fire and smoke detectors.

Interior: This will include refurbishment of the décor, reupholstering the furniture, and fitting of new carpets throughout the train. The staff coach has also been refurbished and fitted with an entertainment system for recreational purposes.

GPS: The train is now fitted with a new and improved GPS system that informs the guests via video and text of the areas the train traverses.

On-board entertainment system: The train has been upgraded with an interactive entertainment system that allows guests to choose from a wide range of movies and music on offer.

Technology upgrades:

– The driver’s eye view has been upgraded and can still be viewed in guests’ suites and the Club Car (smoking lounge).

– The train is now equipped with Wi-Fi throughout – which is available to guests free of charge.
