Cape Town Photo Tours

For those that would like to see a bit more of the Cape and capture some of those iconic Cape images, Cape Town Photo Tours give you the opportunity to experience the Cape through the eye of the camera, and learn a bit more on a completely different level to the normal tour.

Cape Town Photo Tours are designed for photographers of all levels of experience and equipment. Whether you are using a state of the art SLR camera or just the camera on your phone you will be shown how to get the most out of each photo opportunity by your photo guide. Your guide will be on hand to explain some fundamental photographic skills in an easy to understand way that will improve the way you take pictures immediately.

There are currently three offerings :

Itineraries

Chase the Sun Peninsula Tour

• 09.30am Optional pick up from The Cape Milner Hotel in Tamboerskloof for clients staying in the city bowl.
• 10am: Depart The Victoria and Alfred Hotel in The V&A Waterfront and travel in a comfortable air conditioned minibus to Muizenberg Beach to see the iconic technicolour Bathing Boxes that make for some striking imagery.
• 12pm: We head from Muizenberg to Kalk bay where we will walk though this very quaint old holiday town filled with antique shops, galleries, craftsman and vendors shooting as we go.
• 1pm: We have lunch at Kalky’s Fish and Chips in Kalk Bay Harbour. Alternative arrangements can be made for those that do not eat fish.
• 1.30pm: After lunch we make our way through Fish Hoek to Simons town and Boulder’s Beach home to the famous Jackass penguins. The entrance fee to Boulders is an optional extra for clients. We have found that some are happy to see the penguins on the public walkway above the beach and then browse the craft markets instead of paying to go into the reserve.
• 3pm: We start to make our way over to The Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. Unlike other tours we like to get to Cape Point later in the day when the sun is better positioned for photography. We know a few little spots away from the crowds to get some beautiful images of this iconic lansdcape.
• 5pm: After leaving the nature reserve we start to head back towards Cape Town via the staggering Chapman’s Peak Drive. This winding road is cut into the enormous cliff-face, which by this time is being transformed by the dropping sun. We stop at the top of the drive to take in the view back along the cliffs and forwards to Hout Bay Harbour.
• 6pm: We head back along the Atlantic Seaboard towards Cape Town through Bakoven and Kloof Neck to return to
  The V&A Waterfront at approximately 7pm.
• 7.30pm Drop off at The Cape Milner Hotel in Tamboerskloof for clients staying in the city bowl.

Township and Winelands Tour

• 07.00am Optional pick up from The Cape Milner Hotel in Tamboerskloof for clients staying in the city bowl.
• 7.30am: We depart from the Victoria and Alfred Hotel in The V&A Waterfront early so we can get to Imizamo Yethu, the only township in Cape Town within another suburb, as the day starts to build as people make their way to work and school and the township comes alive. We meet our local guides, Lulama and Anele, at the start of the main road and proceed up the hill towards our first stop. Imizamo Yethu is home to some 30,000 people living on the hillside of one of the most affluent suburbs of Cape Town, Hout Bay. This contrast in living conditions offers a true insight into modern day South Africa and the economic disparity that exists.
• 8.30am: We make our way through the township towards the Little Lambs pre-school where the principle, Geraldine, will show us around this amazing school with its 200 pupils. With its brightly coloured walls and beaming children the school is a hive of activity and hope for the future generations that attend. (This is only included during term time).
• 9.00am We continue our walk through IY, as it is known locally, taking in the sights and sounds with our guides showing us all aspects of community life and introducing us to some of its residents and characters.
• 10.30: We start to head down the hill again visiting the community center, library and the craft store filled with amazing items made locally from recycling. If you have a book or magazine that you have recently finished please bring it along and donate it to the Imizamo Yethu Library who always appreciate new additions to their shelves.
• 11am: We continue driving up the hill to Constantia Neck where we visit our first vineyard perched above the Constantia valley – Beau Constantia. This relatively new winery has the best views in the valley from its glass walled tasting room and we will do a tasting of their Rose, White and Red wines and use their vantage point to take some beautiful landscape photographs of Cape Towns oldest wine region with its rolling vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads.
• 1pm: We move on to our second vineyard which is the award winning Constantia Glen situated further down the valley which we have photographed from Beau Constantia. This award-winning vineyard has a beautiful terrace nestled among the vines where we will have a Mediterranean style lunch of local cheeses, meats and bread accompanied by their award winning wines.
• 3pm: We head back towards the V&A Waterfront again through the suburbs in the shadow of the back of Table Mountain. Clients can be dropped off at the magnificent and picturesque Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens en-route by prior arrangement.
• 3.30pm Drop off at The Cape Milner Hotel in Tamboerskloof for clients staying in the city bowl.

Cape Town walking tour and Cape Malay Cookery Class

• 8.30am:We meet at The Victoria and Alfred Hotel in the V&A Waterfront and from there we travel in an airconditioned minibus to the steps of the SA Museum overlooking the beautiful Company Gardens. The walk starts through The Gardens themselves which are chock full of history as they originally served as a source of fresh fruit and vegetables for scurvy ravaged sailors rounding The Cape. Some of the original trees still stand and there are a few hidden secrets if you know where to look. (Clients staying in the city bowl have the option to join the tour at the start of the walk at The Cape Milner Hotel at
  09.00)
• 9.30am:We exit the bottom of Company Gardens and immerse ourselves in the hustle and bustle of the CBD (Central Business District). Cape Town has a rich architectural history and some of the best-preserved examples of the Art Deco building style anywhere in the world. As we wander through the street your photo guide will not only explain the history but also help you to capture the essence of the city centre and its population. We will visit many of the historic landmarks and pass through the raucous Adderley Street Flower Market with its characterful vendors.
• 10.30am:We start to make our way up towards Signal Hill passing through Greenmarket square with its curio stalls and pan-African craftsmen and women and soon cross Buitengracht and enter the brightly coloured Muslim community of The Bo Kaap (The High Cape).
• 11am:The Bo Kaap with its technicolour streets is an iconic photo location and we spend a time getting that quintessential Bo Kaap shot. We walk around the area for at least an hour by which time you will have worked up quite an appetite.
• 12pm: We arrive at the “purple” home of the delightful Mrs Faldela Tolker for a very unique experience and one which will give you a true taste of the culture of The Bo Kaap. Everyone is expected to help with the preparation of a traditional meal so you will find yourself chopping, kneading, folding and stirring in preparation of your delicious Cape Malay lunch of samoosas, rotis, curries and koeksisters. If you are not sure what they are now you surely will after you have dined on these delicacies for your lunch.
• 2pm: The end of lunch signals the end of the tour but for those of you with more energy we can suggest a trip up Table Mountain for the afternoon or perhaps a leisurely afternoon on the beach or by the hotel pool. We will be happy to arrange all your transportation needs to take you to your next destination.
