Cooking Wild Franschhoek 2017 – A Lifestyle, Food and Cooking Experience
Fun filled few days of foraging, cooking, eating and fine wine. Cooking Wild is a lifestyle activity and involves exploring Franschhoek for seasonal ingredients, enjoying the fare at some of the local restaurants, sampling fine wines and preparing and cooking meals.
Accommodation is provided at either Basse Provence Guest House or Rickety Bridge Manor House. Rates for both are available from Ilanga Travel.
The cooking classes are relaxed and participative, with some demonstrations by the chefs, and the rest prepared by you. Having fun is the most important ingredient.
Each day culminates in a feast of what has been prepared by you and the other guests, accompanied by excellent Rickety Bridge wines, anecdotes, laughter and shared experiences…..

BASSE PROVENCE / RICKETY BRIDGE WINE ESTATE, FRANSCHHOEK. SAMPLE ITINERARY
Morning – Self-drive to Basse Provence / Rickety Bridge luxury guesthouses in Franschhoek, where you’ll be welcomed for your Cooking Wild Franschhoek Experience. Lunch is prepared for you on arrival, where you’ll get to meet the chef and other guests, and receive your course information.
Afternoon – After lunch you’ll have time to unpack and unwind before departing on an afternoon excursion to forage at local suppliers for ingredients for tonights supper.
Evening – Return to Rickety Bridge Wine Estate (sister property, next to Basse Provence) for a wine tasting. Then you will be shown around the chef’s kitchen at Paulina’s Restaurant and be provided with the necessary tools to assist you with your cooking experience.
You will work in teams and prepare a variety of popular local, Cape Malay and pan-African dishes using produce sourced in the afternoon, under the direction of the chef and sous chef. This culminates in a feast, accompanied by fine Rickety Bridge wines. Then it’s back to your accommodation for the night.
Days 2 and 3
Morning and Lunch – The days start with a full breakfast in either the breakfast room or on the veranda at Rickety Bridge or Basse Provence. You will be given an overview of the recipes for the day, before heading off an a foraging excursion. This could involve visiting local producers of cheese, bread, charcuterie, olive oil, trout, vegetables, meats, chocolates, medicinal herbs and wine.
Lunch will be at a local restaurant, or a picnic in the vineyards or mountains where you will get to eat some of the delicious food that you have found during the mornings excursion.
Afternoon and Evening – Return to your guest house where you can relax after lunch. You then return to the kitchen at Rickety Bridge to prepare for another feast. Cook a variety of dishes before sitting down to a gala dinner paired with Rickety Bridge wines.
Morning – Enjoy a full breakfast, before checking out of your guest house and saying goodbye.
