Matemo Island Closure

Earlier this year, Rani Resorts announced a maintenance project for Matemo Island in the Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique, which was due to take place between February and April 2013.

Following an inspection visit, significant structural damage to the main buildings was established – predominantly due to an extended period of exposure to severe weather conditions. What was considered a routine maintenance project will now require substantial assessment and repair, and Matemo Island will be closed until further notice.

At this stage, the extent of the damage and the duration of the restoration that needs to be undertaken are unknown, and in the process of being evaluated. This time, however, will provide an exciting opportunity for Rani Resorts to develop a re-branding and refurbishment strategy to create a new identity for Matemo Island.

In the interim, and understanding that this will impact on a number of guests already confirmed for Matemo Island, Rani Resorts have expressed that their priority is the comfort and satisfaction of their guests, and have ensured that alternative, suitable options are offered, and as little inconvenience caused to guests and their booking agents. The Rani Reservations Team will be in touch directly with all bookings affected by this very unfortunate unforeseen turn of events.

Any new reservations or enquiries for Matemo Island will also not be considered as a result of the closure.
