The Drostdy Hotel Joins Newmark Hotels, Reserves & Lodges’ Portfolio

Exciting news as stalwarts in the tourism and hospitality industry, Newmark Hotels, Reserves & Lodges add the well-known Drostdy Hotel in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape to their portfolio this month.

“We are extremely excited to include this remarkable hotel in our list of unique holiday options,” says Neil Markovitz, Managing Director of Newmark. “Together with four hotels in Cape Town, a renowned safari experience in the Timbavati Nature Reserve, as well as a beach hideaway in Mozambique, these are exciting times as we expand our expertise to include the Karoo and the Eastern Cape surroundings,” he continued.

This historic property, which opened as a hotel in 1878, was originally built by French architect Louis Thibault to serve as the magistrate’s office for the town. Today however it is known by many passing travellers en route to the Eastern or Western Cape. Newmark envisions that not only will the hotel’s development garner exposure for Graaff-Reinet as a tourism destination, but also grow the local economy in turn.

Renovations have already commenced to turn this gem of a property to its former glory as a 5* boutique hotel experience, with a grand opening scheduled in December 2014.

Renovations set to begin at V&A Hotel

Refurbishments are due to commence at the V&A Hotel at the waterfront in May 2014, and should be completed by the end of August 2014.

In keeping with modern trends, we will give our bathrooms on both the first and second floors a facelift. Sixty eight bathrooms in total will receive upgrades to further enhance the luxurious feel that is already offered to guests. Refurbishments will include a total refit; separate bath and showers will remain with the inclusion of his and hers basins, whilst larger mirrors and upgrades will create an all-round more spacious feeling. There will be minimal disruption to guests as each floor will be closed during the refurbishment.
